WEDNESDAY BIG DOGS
LEAGUE RULES
The BIG DOGS BOWLING League will bowl on WEDNESDAY at 6:15 at
EASTLAND LANES. The league will have a scheduled starting date of
AUGUST 26, 2009 and a scheduled ending date of APRIL 14, 2010 and will participate for a total of 33 weeks.
The league will not bowl on the following dates: NOVEMBER 25, 2010.
NOTE: The following is a set of league rules, which may be adopted by completing the blanks and providing copies to
each team. Other options may be available as provided in the rules outlined in Chapter 4 of the USBC Playing Rules book.
Other rules may be added, but cannot in any way conflict with USBC Rules.
Rule 1. The league board of directors, which consists of the officers and team captains, shall manage this league. The full membership adopts the
league rules.
Rule 2. The league will consist of 24 teams with a playing strength of 5.
Rule 3. League fees, which must be paid by each member each session, shall be $17.00 of which $8.00 covers the cost of bowling, and the
balance of $9.00 to be placed in the league account.
a) Sponsor fees of $100.00 per team are due by the 10th week.
b) All bowlers must be in uniform by the 10th week of bowling. Any member not in uniform will be fined $1.00.
c) Any bowler more than 2 weeks behind in fees becomes subject to the dismissal policies of the league.
d) Any member wishing to quit the league must have all of their fees up to date and present two weeks notice and payment of fees to their team
captain or league secretary.
e) Only league members may write checks. Any check returned for any reason will result in forfeiture of check writing privileges.
Games shall be forfeited by any team whose participating members are more that 1 week behind in league fee payments. The secretary’s salary of
272.25 shall be paid at the completion of the league schedule.
The names of players, as well as any changes in the roster during the season, are to be reported by the team captain to the league secretary before
a player competes.
Rule 4. The team franchise is held by the team captain. The captain must notify the league secretary of the team’s intention to retain the franchise for
the next season by March 31, 2010.
Rule 5. An account will be opened in the name of the league and deposits must be made within 7 days of receipt.
Withdrawals from the account may only be made with the joint signatures of at least two officers as designated by the league board of directors. The
league president shall verify the account monthly.
Rule 6. A prize list, drawn up by a committee appointed by the league president, must be submitted for approval by the league board of directors
within ten (10) weeks after the start of the schedule.
All league members must bowl at least 2/3 of the league’s scheduled games to be eligible for individual league prizes or awards.
Special individual high series and game prizes shall be awarded on a handicap/scratch basis.
Rule 7. Entering averages of all players shall be determined in the following order:
1.Average established in this league last season, based on 21 games or more.
2.Highest average from the previous season in any USBC league, based on 21 games or more.
3.Current average from another USBC league, based on 21 games or more.
4.Finally, the league will assign the bowler an average of 170.
BOWLERS WILL USE THEIR ENTERING OR ASSIGNED AVERAGE UNTIL 12 GAMES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.
Rule 8.Handicap will be 100% of the difference between a bowler’s average and a scratch figure of 225.
Rule 9. The league will be certified through USBC. Adult membership fees must be paid before completion of the bowler’s first series. The USBC
Membership fees required to participate in the league are as follows:
Men $20.00 Women $21.00
Rule 10. The league will consist of: Males and Females
Rule 11. The minimum legal lineup of 3 players must be present before the completion of the first frame of each game. Regular members and
substitutes count toward a legal lineup.
Substitutes are permitted to participate in the league and will be assigned to the roster of the original team they sub with. Should they choose to sub
with more than 1 team they will be required to pay lineage ($8.00) which goes to the prize fund. No cost to sub with original team.
NO SUB WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO BOWL IN THE SEASON ENDING ROLL-OFF UNLESS THEY HAVE ESTABLISHED AN AVERAGE IN THIS LEAGUE
(MINIMUM 12 GAMES)AND CAN ONLY BOWL WITH THE ORIGINAL TEAM THEY SUBBED WITH.
A substitute or replacement may be a male or female as long as the team floors at least 1 male and 1 female.
Rule 12. When bowling in a known forfeit situation or scheduled against a non-existent team in a bye situation, the team must bowl at least the team
average less 10 pins per player to earn the points.
Rule 13. Absentee scores will be allowed when a team has a legal lineup, but less than a full lineup at the start of any game in a series. Handicap
will be figured on the average of absent member. The absentee score will be the absent member’s average minus 10 pins.
Teams having an incomplete roster (vacancy on the team) will use a score of 170 for the vacant position, which shall be used for the basis of
determining handicap.
Rule 14. All postponement requests must be approved by the postponement committee/league board of directors. In the absence of a
postponement committee, the league’s board of directors is responsible for making decisions on all
prebowl/postponement requests.
Teams may request to bowl unopposed before or after a regularly scheduled match. All requests must be made through the league at least 48
hours in advance of the scheduled league session except for emergencies. Procedures outlined in
Rule 111a-g must be followed.
Rule 15. A bowler who arrives late may enter the game provided 3 frames have not been completed. In this situation NO frames missed may be
made up.
Rule 16. Team position standings shall be determined on a point basis, with 2 points awarded for each game won and 1 point awarded for the high
team series in each match.
ROLLOFFS
30TH AND 31ST WEEK
THE 1ST AND 2ND PLACE TEAMS WILL RECEIVE BYES FOR THE 1ST TWO ROUNDS OF THE PLAYOFFS AND WILL PLAY THE BEST AVAILABLE
TEAMS NOT IN THE ROLLOFF.
THE 3RD THRU 10 PLACE TEAMS WILL COMPETE IN A SINGLE BRACKET ELIMINATION FORMAT DOWN TO THE FINAL 2.
32ND AND 33RD WEEK
THE 2 SURVIVING TEAMS WILL JOIN THE 1ST AND 2ND PLACE TEAMS IN A FOUR TEAM BRACKET WITH THE 1ST PLACE TEAM PLAYING THE
LOWEST SEEDED QUALIFIER.
EVERYONE ELSE WILL COMPETE THROUGH 4 POSITION ROUNDS, REMEMBER POINTS STILL MATTER AS THE ROLLOFF ONLY
DETERMINES THE LEAGUE CHAMPION.
